Leaves in pond over winter

Yes remove as many leaves as you can. Use pond vac to remove pond bottom sludge. Use a pond net.

Pro tip for doing the net frame:
Hammer some 1" ID pvc pieces into the ground as your stake. Cut the tip at an angle.
Put them opposite each other at about 45°. Then insert your 1" OD pvc into the stakes so it bends over the pond about 3-5' high.

This keeps the net off the water and allows most leaves to blow off the sides rather than piling on top.

I put rebar in the ground and left it sticking up out of the ground by 8 inch's and just pushed my pvc pipe over it .

I net mine for the fall until all the trees are done dropping their leaves then pull the net.

the [ unused this year ] leaf net is laid over three ropes and five perpendicular lighter cords anchored with wires pushed into soil . this system makes for compact storage . the anti-blue heron summer net is on two 14 foot poles and , where needed , anchored on sides with stones . this lets me move net to brush bottom of pond without the need of a helper . thanks for all comments . . . peace
