Olive nerite snails

I collected and added about 20 olive nerite snails to my pond and waterfall today. They’ve been about my favorite cleanup crew animal in fresh, brackish and saltwater aquariums for 14 years. I figure since they require brackish water to breed and support their egg’s development I won’t have to fear a population explosion using them in my pond. They immediately went to work upon release.

Well it appears my map turtle has hunted and picked off every one of the snails I introduce. She’s now patrolling the pond searching above the waterline, definitely a new behavior.
