This funny looking fish was hatched in my pond two years ago. He is fat and sassy, but has a ridiculously short tail. I call him Stumpy. Have you ever seen such a thing? I have comets and Shubunkins, all with normal or fancy tails.

Mr stubs could have got his tail between a couple rocks and ripped it off . If it was done low enough it may be permanent. or it could be a bad case of fin rot some fish do not do well with fin rot while others are unaffected
