Koi activity

Hello, I have acquired some new koi in the pond and they will usually sit in this corner, but they see you they will start swimming around and hide, wondered if anyone can put some insight on this behavior?

You need to create some cover for them, someplace they can feel safe and protected until they get used to your pond. All that open water is leaving htem very insecure. Your arrival at the pond is scaring them.
