I have moved and can no longer keep my common goldfish Claudete. She is very friendly and personable. I love her very much and would like her to live out her days in an outdoor pond where she can be as happy as possible. I can bring her to her new home myself but I will want to see the pond first. I am hoping to transition her to her new home in late March or early April, once the cold weather is gone for the year.

@DJ713

I'd take her but I live way across the country.
Hope you can find a good home for her

About 42 miles. I have a few separate small ponds I could isolate it in. But I have been fighting water snakes.

Last year very few compared to the year before.

It would then go into the big pond, once isolation is over.

@addy1 's ponds would be a paradise for any fish. The snake issue might be a concern, but honestly any outdoor pond poses a predator risk for fish. How old is your fish?

Good luck to you and Claudette @DJ713!

My hat is off to @DJ713 for trying to find a good home for Claudete! And that is extremely nice of @addy1 to offer a good home for the fish! Addy, perhaps a Florida gator to eat the snakes?!

Don't they eat fish also?

I did have way fewer snakes, like 5 vs the 23 or so the last year. Will see what this year brings.

Yeah, that is one disadvantage! They eat virtually anything. There are a few 'big boys' who give me the eye when I venture out on a local restaurant's deck. "Jump in, the water's great!"

Since @DJ713 wants to find a pond home for the fish in MD then snakes might be an issue anywhere there unless maybe a city pond? @addy1 does a very good job of trying to keep the snakes at bay removing them w/traps and relocating to farm ponds further away.

Hello Addy,
I apologize for not responding sooner, long story short I had a series of family emergencies/obligations that took up much of my spare time. The picture of your garden pond in your gallery pictures looks incredible, like goldfish heaven. Are you still interested in taking Claudete on? Also how has the snake issue been this year?

No snakes this year, so far, just 2 caught last year. In 2022 24 caught. So think I am past the fish eating snake issues.

Still going to have a trap out, in case.

So yes you can bring claudette over. My pond water is still in the 50s, if she is in a tank, might be better to wait until a bit warmer.

With the heat coming the pond temperature will go up. If you are using a heater make the water slowly colder.

it can be floated to adjust the temperature.
