I am needing to replace my skimmer filter and was wondering if anyone used something from Lowes or Menards? I have priced it at my local pond shop and they seem really high and for such a small piece. Pictures, names and prices would be helpful, thanks in advance. Amber

Lowes andHomeDepot carry these...they wont last forever like matala but perform great as part of my prefilter set up...theyre abou$5.00. theyre 20"x 30" x1" thick. over time they will compress to about 1/2" this only makes them more efficient. dont have askimmer and dont know how they will hold up in a vertical application but i know they work great for my purposes... they are cut to fit furnace filters. envirocare i think is the name, they arent framed, or super thin spun polyester, or fiberglass like most. look at them and decide if they might serve your needs. i'll see if i can find a better pic.

there are quite a few venders on ebay as well that sell matala, and matala type filter pads.

If you have a local cleaning company, you can also buy the industrial buffer pads from them. The black is great for bio, the green is good for medium filtration and the light brown is great for fines. They last quite a while also.

Lowes also carries those but they are round...in a skimmer she would have to cut them into a square so she'd have to buy oversized ones...

They do sell square buffing pads .I got them at a local equipment rental center they were 8 dollars for a package of 2 ,one was a fine and one was course .They were made for those square buffers that vibrate to buff ,home depot in NJ still carries them also in the rental center .Some home depots do not have rental centers but the one in Edison NJ does

you need to keep a file and book for your pond tmann as it makes everything easier .I keep a file for every plant thatt I have on my property and it lists when I bought it where I bought and how big it was when I bought it and anything else like color of flower growth rate and when it flowers .

That is a great idea sissy, but I am just too darn lazy to do all that work. Maybe when I have more time or better yet I could get my wife to do it. :lamp5:

I have files on all the plants that I have but not when or where I bought them. Just info on how to take care of each one, names etc. Comes in quite handy at times. Mostly I'm too lazy to look it up tho unless somebody asks me a question on one of them. Then I'm frantically searching..............now what was the name of that darn plant...............I know it was filed under perennials or was it shrubs or evergreens.........geez!

The files may seem like a lot of work to start with but save time in the long run .I have been trying now to scan them and put them on my puter to make it even easier .But still got to get the punch list on my sons house done plus work on this house .Good news got the realtor back and he said he the house is now worth 120 thousand and right now with the purchase and the supplies and work I put into it I put out 9 thousand dollars and thats with adding in the ride on mower I had to buy for there plus washer dryer dishwasher fridge stove and microwave

Good idea putting on the computer. Lots of work doing that tho cuz I have so many files and no scanner! Guess I could take a photo of each one w/ my camera and add it on that way. I'll prolly just leave it alone and leave it paper..................I'm too lazy to do all that over again.
