has anyone done a DIY skimmer? I have a few tree planter boxes i like to convert 1 to a skimmer. The ideal is pvc frame work with fiberglass screen. and a good pump. I would like to sit the skimmer inside the pond and the discharge to go right back into the pond. Basically the skimmer would sit inside the pond and pump right back to pond. see pics of the container i was thinking of using, The black one.

I am guessing we are both at trial and error. of to find a pump
I originally intended to run this with a pump inside but now I want to draw water from it to the anjon monsoon. It was more complicated than it needs to be because I was also going to use it as a mechanical drum filter. I will explain the pics when ibhabe more time.

I use an 18 gal storage tote. I spray the inside and outside with a rubber spray paint. Attached a pool skimmer plate and secured the liner behind the plate. The skimmer box houses my pump , Matala pads and quilt batting for mechanical filtration. My first pond had one of these. My rebuild last year I installed two of these DIY skimmer boxes. My huge bull frog has made one its home.

Came across some floor buffer pads and a blanket so I made a couple modifications. Found some floor buffer pads for super cheap so incorporated those. Now i just have the one planter pots upside down in the drum. The buffernpads will be the primary media filter and the netting and the blanket will be the secondary filter. Neither to do such a good job that it starves the bog so I may need to adjust over time.
