Just a warning that retrofit bottom drains do not work when you have plumbing come up and over the top. I've been there and tried that, and it doesn't work. Air gets trapped in the area at the top of where the pipe goes above the top edge of the pond and it just fails to work. I ended up popping a hole in the side of my liner and the retro drain works like a dream.

Bottom drains are not for everyone, but I can tell you that even with a retro bottom drain, my pond floor has never been cleaner. I can't be more thrilled with the results.

Again, everyone does their own thing with their personal pond. Some will warn you away from BD's, while others think you're nuts if you don't have one. C'est la vie!
