My father in law in California rased exotic birds as a hobby and for some profit. His whole back yard was row and row of aviaries of birds. The Neighber cats were getting on the fences at night and spooking the birds.
He installed a low voltage, two strand wire, side by side on the top of the 2" x 4" fence. All the cats had to do was make connection with the two wires and they got a low voltage zap. Cats don't forget pain, and don't come back.
