Hi all. I'm new here. I live on the USA mid-Atlantic coast, zone 7A. I currently have a 30 gallon half barrel pond (I have had it for five years now) and hope to put in a much larger one for next spring. I will be seeking help with my current pond and gathering ideas for the second one.

Welcome but I can say now after 20 years of my pond build I woud do a pondless . As I got older it seems to be more work than I can handle anymore . i have been looking at getting rid of fish and pond and doing a nice pondless with plants . I am 71 now and 3 plus acres and the pond are getting to be too much for me

I know what you mean. I retired to only one acre five years ago. I have two pond liners that are planted as bogs growing native carnivorious plants and bog orchids. My half barrel pond is buried in one of them. I also have a large garden area surronded by a deer fence. Home grapes, blueberries, strawberries, asparagus, and raised veggie beds. Plus an herb garden and a pollinator garden.

Lol I added 9 pups, live on 4 acres, 11 ponds, wouldn't have it any other way. Multiple gardens.

Can't even imagine living in a condo, Apt, small house surrounded by people.

If stuff gets behind, no biggy.

I have been a vegetaran my whole life veggies and canning most of my life also . My parents owned a farm and my mom taught us how to can at a young age . My oldest son lives in NJ and he gardens and cans and he is 50 now , I am starting to get tired of all the work . It may keep you young but it sure tires you out . My promise was to retire at 50 and I retired at 49 . Moved from the garden state where everything grows to Virginia where you get red clay . Free manure from the cow farm does help across the road from me . But not sure about who is noiser the cow farm in front or the horse farm behind me or the Martinsville speedway with the goodyear blimp going over my house . I use lots of rain barrels and make manure tea for my gardens also . My father was fussy about organic gardening in 1958 when he bought the11 acre city farm .

oh Addy know what you mean when I got married hubby and I lived in an apartment for 3 years , but the apartment complex was good because it was small and most were young mothers like me, so that was great . The house I owned I rented out and it covered more than my rent at the time . Then it was time to move in and remodel it .
