I was puzzled over a slightly similar issue a few weeks ago when i found freshwater pea mussels in my pond was baffled until i googled and discovered that their larvae live a parasites on fish gills until they are old enough to drop off, figured they must have arrived on a new fish a baught last summer from the garden centre.
