Well my pond is about 12ftx7ft and I had 2 planters of lotus sunk in the pond(never bloomed for 2 years). Yesterday I went in the pond to check on them and one of them escaped the pot with new tubers extending 4 ft from the pot. So I took both of them out of the pots and just dumped them in the water as is and now they are just sitting on the bottom on the pond liner. My pond is unfiltered so all the gunk should have plenty of nutrients in there so I don’t think it needs a soil mix? I also don’t want to buy a kiddie pool sized pot for the lotus because I’ll never be able to lift it out of the pond when I need to. Are there any negative consequences by just leaving the lotus rootball sitting on the bottom of the pond as is?
