It could if they are limestone. You can test them by dropping a little vinegar on a stone. If it fizzes, it's not good for around your pond. That being said, don't put any stones IN your pond. Stones covering the bottom harbor harmful debris and make your pond harder to clean. Larger stones or rocks in your pond can be obstacles that your fish can harm themselves on when spooked or spawning.

are you wanting to put rocks INTO your pond? like at the bottom?

If so, stop in your tracks right there!! Adding any rocks into the pond will create a nightmare situation for you to keep clean. There's no way to get in and around rocks to clean and you will shortly have a mess of debris, poop and food decay you can't remove. Just say no.

No. don't put 'em in!! Trust me in that I'm saving you from hell. People think rocks in a pond look pretty and natural. However, that pretty and natural look will end in a few months when you've got debris laying in every crack and crevice you can't remove.

Just keep bare liner. that is all. It's a captured body of water--you try to make it look as natural as you can...but at the end of the day it's a big hole with fish in it and you need to keep it clean. So, don't make the cleaning aspect harder than it should be. Keep your floor bare....

Of course, if you want to put rocks around the outer edges of your pond, by all means, go nuts. Just NOT inside the pond.
