Smelly Pond

Had to turn my pump off for a few days for some pond maintenance. Now when I turned the unit back on, the water coming out is somewhat smelly. I'm assuming this is temporary and will clean out after it runs for awhile; however, is there a product our there you use for eliminating the water smell?
