Well I have already cut the jungle back twice this year…… most of these are in submerged baskets and some are embedded in the rocks….. but all that being said it took 6 years to get to this point and the fish are happy….Sarah and I are happy, a little cutting action a couple of times a year is no big deal. So to everyone wanting to have a pond…. Or has a pond….. I have 8 huge Koi in 3000 gallons, with good filtration, but I have the plants to support them filtration….. I learned the hard way….. “Less is Better “ Jimmy and Sarah

I will have to tell you I took Sarah’s super sharp kitchen knife and attached it to a pool cleaning pole (via duct tape) and got the whole edges of the pond cleaned up and two weeks later runners were going everywhere…. LoL

Looks great, love the tropical feel/look of the plants you put in and around the pond.

You are braver than me! I would probably have stabbed my liner.

I use a old serrated knife to cut plants apart. A pitch fork to get the yellow flag under control . Which really needs to be controlled, I never got it purged this year.

Well I might have an advantage because my pond is 2 ft deep even at the waterfall, but I just turn the knife upwards and slip just underneath and pull up, cuts them right off. That being said… about 4 years ago I decided I was going to wade in and cut everything….. thank God Sarah didn’t have her phone with her…. It would have made a great YouTube video….. needless to say you cannot not walk on algae covered EDPM…. LoL

@Jimmy Gibson - just gorgeous!

One thing I've noticed as my pond has aged... that super slippery algae has slowly turned to a soft but super tough carpet algae. Coats the rocks and makes them slip free! I used to slip and slide my way in and hope for the best on landing. Now I can safely step down without incident.

Well I have to admit that I have not tried again since that incident and it definitely has a thick but short carpet algae on it now….. but thinking about it….. at 67 I think I will stick with the pool pole and kitchen knife…. LoL
