The annual Dallas Koi show will be at the Bass Pro Shop in Grapevine Tx. next weekend, sept 2-5th, just wondering if anyone else is attending. We plan on leaving out Thursday and staying through the weekend.

Well we just made it back in from Dallas this morning at 3am. Had to drive through tropical storm Lee all the way home due to bringing fish back. The show was lots of fun, lot of gorgeous fish, super nice folks from the Dallas Koi club, and got some neat information from show sponsors to hobbyist. The first pic the Red and White Kohaku ended up winning the overall supreme Champion for the show.( Pic one and two) I wasn't able to get pics of all the winners due to I didn't attend the banquet and had to leave out Sunday before all the winners were talked about. But I did get some great shots of some of the competition. Pic # 3 is the reserve champion, this was another Kohaku and this fish was huge, almost 31" long! only five years old. Pic #4 was the only Kumonryu entered and was simply breathtaking! #5 A great Asagi, This was my wife's pic for the people's choice award. Pics #6 and #7 are a superb kikusui. although it didn't take any awards that I am aware of but it was by far the one fish I wanted to purchase over all the koi brought, This was my pic for the people choice award. Unfortunatly, it wasn't for sale. # 8 a Gin Rin Hi Utsuri, Very nice 15" fish and this fish sold in the auction for only $100. What a steal! #9 one of the large Showa that were shown.#10 Super nice yellow Ogon yamabuki. #11 nice face shot of the largest goshiki entered. #12 and 13 was a almost flawless Hi Matsuba another fish that was getting close to the 30" mark and not one scale flaw or fin flaw could be found on this fish. #14 - 19 are some of the random pics of multiple fish shots and show shots. #20 Is a GINRIN MATSUKAWABAKE 14" long this is one of the two fish I bought and brought home. This was a auction win $10! Another steal! #21 is the other fish we bought, a 8" Kikusui $20. The last pic is a reticulated scaled Matsukawabake, This was a new fish that was just being seen and VERY RARE! The picture doesn't do this fish justice!

We had a lot of fun and met some great people. I just found they are having even a bigger show up in your area JW. If you get a chance to go i highly recommend it. I know your not a Koi keeper but there is good information to be gotten on food, filters, pumps, talks and seminars, and other pond related topics as well as the beautiful fish. Here is the infor for the Washington show later this month.

JW you can be the forum representative and report back to us all the good info you get. It looks like it may be about an hours drive for you or about 5 hours on your bike.

Thanks for the info Larkin. Would be fun to see but doubt if hubby would want to drive over there to Bellevue. He's got us running around like crazy now trying to prepare for a trip to Hawaii. He did mention today that they have a pond/garden tour over in Oahu that I might like to see. And there is a submarine we can got down into and watch the fish from a bubble. Also said we could take a cruise on some boat and then be lowered down into the water w/ the dolphins/porpoises out there.........can't remember which, and a snorkel. Never snorkeled before or swam w/ them. Might be fun or might be the last fun I have here on earth, lol! He's got all these plans to do all this stuff we've never done before, like kayaking in the bay and riding 4 wheelers to see some sights w/ a group. I said that might be nice if we didn't have to drive like the crazy ones that I've seen on those things. He laughed at me and said "They don't want you to drive crazy on them. They don't want to pay if you get hurt." We never went on a honeymoon when we were married back in the late 60's............well we did go to see 2001 A Space Odyssy.........lol.
This is the first time I have flown in a airliner since I was 4yrs old. Not big on the idea and don't like heights but love anything tropical so going to grin and bear it to get there

Should be about 90F on the weekend possibly here and not thinking I would be a very good rep coming in looking like a lobster colored drowned rat that had been on a bike for 5 hours. Rode our bikes the other day to Wal-mart and Costco looking for a carry on bag for our trip and when I got there my hair was so wet under the helmet I looked like I just came from swimming! That trip was only a bit over 30 miles round trip but it was quite warm and humid!
