How much soil does the larger tubs for planting lilies in, hold? Is 5lb bag enough?
Also, what is the best planting media (soil) for hardy lilies?

I put mine in Walmart oil pans and use unscented kitty litter.

That's really hard to say without knowing exactly how big your "larger tub" is, but aquatic planting soil is pretty heavy, so 5# isn't as large a bag as you might think.

I prefer the Microbe-lift brand/type of planting media. It looks like tiny beads of hard red clay & it doesn't break down, so some of it can be saved & reused when it's time to repot or divide the plants. It's a lot more expensive than using plain clay kitty litter, but I honestly can't stand working with the slimy, wet consistency of litter.

Same here. I find my lilies edge out the kitty litter in a year or two. Whenever I have to re-pot, it's all tuber - very little kitty litter left in the pot.

Thanks, that's what I was wondering if I should go with the kitty litter or the Microbe-lift...I'll spend the money and get the Microbe-lift. I have two of those plastic tubs that they sell for the lilies, so I'll get the 20lb bag. Thanks for the input!!

If you don't use it all, it's not like it's going to go bad. You can save it for next time! :)
