I have just built a new pond in my garden and been out to buy some pond plants.
One of the plants I bought was a Equisetum hyemale/Dutch rush.
I know to keep it in a pot to stop spread but my question is : will it spread by giving off spores ?
If it does, its going in the bin.
Thanks all. Dave Dobson (England)

I would be careful with Equisetum hyemale (Dutch rush) as it can reproduce by spores. It is aggressive by rhizomes less so by spores but once spread by spores then it can go crazy by rhizomes.

Well i have good news it does not spread by spores but it is an invasive plant according to ai your dutch rush is what we know as horsetail rush. Very aggressive and it spreads by rhizomes. Some people never have an ossue controlling it for me it became a nightmare.

Yes, very aggressive and you will be pulling it out from surrounding areas for a long time. And that's in cold Canada. It doesn't care about cold.

Horsetail rush is indeed a full time babysitting job. I have mine planted inside my liner on a waterfall pool - I take it back down to a few reeds every spring to keep it under control. I do love it though, so we co-exist.
