Fukurin is the layer of skin that grows and extends out from under the scales in mature kois. It is seldom that you will see Fukurin in young kois. But there are exceptions. When two of these layers grow on top of each other, it will form an exceptional Fukurin which is mostly desired by koi keepers. This is when you will only see the richness and depths

Brilliant xplanation koiguy and some fantastic examples of Fukurin with the beautiful colouration we get to see with our koi .
Maria you say it almost looks to be sprayed on whit till you see some good examples of scaleless doitsu where the colouration and paterning looks to have been applied exactly like that
This is why many of us have this love affair with our koi
