Can you install a pond pump on it's side?

I've just ordered two variflow pumps. They will be external and below water level, like a lot of pumps the outlet is vertical, straight up.

It would be a bit easier for me to fit with the pump on its side, so outlet comes out horizontal, it means I won't have to add extra bends to run the pipe back down. Are there any problems with doing it?

I'm not familiar with this particular pump, but I do know the Aquascape pumps we use can be installed either vertically or horizontally. Maybe check the manufacturers specs.

It's not in the spec, so I've contacted the manufacture, I'll see what they say

Generally you can take a pump apart and rotate it so that the outfeed is in a different orientation
