I think I have just explained a lot in my check this morning. The water is no longer flowing through the UV light. Not sure what or when this happened. Maybe its blocked. Have to pull it apart.

Yes for sure. You could do something like set the pump in a milk crate full of river rock or lava rock, or wrap it in quilt batting as you suggested. It is always advisable to mechanically filter the water before sending it through a UV :)

I have always used lava rock in my filters .I know the old fashioned it does not work thing ,been told that lots of times but it has worked for me

My other previous ponds were filtered with lava rock, it did fine.

To make you feel better Priscilla, my pond was starting to clear. I could see the bottom yesterday. This morning the hubby was trying to help by scooping out leaves and knocked an oil pan full of kitty litter off a shelf and into the bottom. Back to murky. Maybe something someone somewhere is trying to send me a message. I hope you've had better luck than I this weekend. And Lisa, I think the leaches are gone. I did a partial drain and a thorough scooping and haven't seen another one. They may be in hibernation though, I understand they are pretty hard to get rid of once they move in.... lol
