been dealing with the blue heron again. If I get up before dawn I usually see him arrive, but once in a while I don’t. I have tried everything that I know of, but there doesn’t seem to be anything else I can do. I bang on a pan and sometimes he leaves, but comes back. I don’t have collector grade fish, but have had some of them for 5+ years. He was down in the water this morning. I saw one of two golden orfes on the ground about ten feet away. His mouth was moving a bit so I threw him back in. Maybe he will make it. These two fish are at least a foot in length. The only option I can think of is to just restock the pond with small generic goldfish when I get down to a couple of survivors. I could put a net back but that impairs the looks of the pond. Dog gone bird just came back. Now he is on the roof of a neighbors house. I was thinking about putting the. Net just below the wate, but then I lose the water lilie. Our dog barking at him limits the bird’s action a bit but again that is if and when he sees him.

Just went outside to place fishing line around the pond and saw that we have two fish left out of maybe 20! I think my only solution is no solutio. Maybe invest in a couple of goldfish and a BB gun?

You said you object to the look of a net, however I found with a black wide weave net and we spray painted the conduit we used to make the hoop house black, it wasn't very noticeable.

Honestly we purchase these fish and place them in peril, they are basically " sitting ducks" in an unprotected pond and the heron is just feeding itself.
