I need some help to determine if some of my baby fish are koi. I know that the fish in the first 2 photos are gold fish but I am unsure about the last 2 photos. They do not have the coloring like the goldfish, any help would be great. Thanks

Those look like some of my baby goldfish, brownish with gold tones, some of them are getting nicely colored now.

Easiest way to tell is put the ones in question in something that has clear sides, Like a small aquarium just for observing, Koi have one or two pair of whiskers on each side of there mouth. They are most easily seen after the koi reach about 1 - 1 1/2" in size. that being said, Most all those look to be varing colorations of goldfish. Some of those shubunkin colors are really nice BTW!

Oh and I went back and looked at your details, Koi normally don't breed until they are at least two years old and 12" or bigger in size. (Notice I said most of the time) very rarely they may breed earlier but in many cases it may be the third or forth year and well over 12" before they attempt the first breeding.

According to a net search, someone said they saw barbels at around 22 days. I don't have koi so no clue if that is accurate.

With a magnifying glass MAYBE! LOL I've never been able to clearly see them until a couple of months old. But then again, In most cases I usually knew what they were ahead of time.
