remember to think about the worst case for snow and runoff from it .But I love when you pull into a driveway and see a pond .It is welcoming and relaxing .I remember snow storm in NJ where snow was almost up to the second story of my house
I have had to dig out of my house a few times up here.

I have had to dig out of my house a few times up here.
Im from Minnesota originally, we are lucky to get a few inches of snow here. Im more worried about flood water from the river jumping the banks. Where I’m moving it to, that won’t be an issue unless we get record breaking floods, in which case, my house will have more problems than missing fish!

Good thing it didn’t work out.

The plans continue to evolve. Now instead of on the porch, I’m thinking in front of it. A half circle, with a raised bog along the wall, water fall, ledges, shallow berm along the edges to keep fish in from rain overflow, eventually a small fence, or I could do my rock wall... Attached are pics of where I want to put it. That’s be an the east side of the house, so my lillies will get morning and noon sun, have afternoon shade, so perhaps I can avoid the pea green summer algae, and it’s further away from the field of cotton. And we could put up a tarp if they do cotton again. The orange hose is a rough outline if you can see it!

leave yourself room to maintain the house ,like painting or cleaning or even tuck pointing the brick if need be .I have seen others put things a little to close and then can't maintain the house .Plus snow load and even icicles can be a hazard .Not fun if you puncture your liner after all the work

I much prefer this idea you have, you can have chairs on the porch for eating out and watching the pond, maybe even a bbq in the same area.

Lol. The bbq smoker area will be just across the pond from the house on the what used to be a small basket ball court. Concrete is still good, but we don’t use the hoop, so the plan is to eventually put up a brick half wall to block wind, and gazebo type roof with big netting. But that’s a fluid plan for now, cause dad was also talking about maybe moving it...

Love watching pond builds/moves. No skimmer?
Sorry, hadn’t been on much. I’m low tech, I’m not planning a skimmer, just pond with bog that waterfalls into the pond. I’m fine tuning the plans now, I have three metal frames that will support the build up for the bog, but first I have to come up with $400 for a small back hoe to do the bulk of the digging. Then I’ll fine tune with shovels and a few friends to help. Then it’ll be take apart the pool, move it over, lay it out, trim it, and set up how I want. If I’m lucky, my taxes will cover the back hoe thing, and let me buy the food and drinks plus some pay for the friends I’m recruiting as help.

The way the few icecicles ive seen here form, my pond will be safe. That area won’t need painted, but the red will get changed eventually. I’ve got a plan that will make the big sturdier with out needing to use the brick work as support for all the dirt.

Yesterday was nice and warm, today is icy. I want to start on this already, but can’t cause of weather! I’m going to try raising some vegetables in the bog this year, if I can get it done in time. Has anyone tried that yet? I’m thinking I’ll put a row of iris and other tall flowers along the porch edge, then if I do some edibles, those will be along the outside edges, and fill in the rest with good filtration plants and mint. I might even try a few mint family plants like cat nip! The water will then fall onto a shallow ledge about a foot wide, which will give me space to walk along tending the bog plus increase airation and decrease the turbulence. I’ll make a small berm around the edges, with a shallow spot to allow run off, which I’ll work some cement into the soil in a path that will allow drainage with out erosion. Once the dogs are fenced in, I’ll try putting like strawberries along the edges there. I’d love to come into enough money to be able to get all the plants I want to put around there. But that would mean winning the lottery!
And I think the pond I had started on that’s a big hole now, if I have enough liner left over, will become a frog pond for excess lillies and maybe some lotus. I’ve read that lotus spread a lot, so it would be a good spot for them.
