Hi, I'm brand new to this and looking to build my first ever pond for the family to enjoy! I'm super excited and looks like I've found a great forum with like-minded people :)

welcome, what are you thinking of building just remember once you have a pond it becomes a bigger pond and then the biggest pond there is usually three .

I've dug the pond area, 2m x 850 cm wide x 650 cm deep. So around 1000L (220 gallons) I'll put some pics up tomorrow of the progress made

Thank you, how many Goldfish do you recommend please?
You really need to get your pond built before you start worrying about how many fish you can house. If you do end up at 200 gallons, three or four goldfish is more than enough. Before you know it you'll be looking for homes for the babies.

As for a waterfall - you need to have that plan in place before you proceed any further. Share some pictures of what you have going on and you'll get lots of help.

Is 65cm deep enough for goldfish? I'm in the UK, so we get freezing temps during the winter.
Should I maybe go a bit deeper?

That calculates out to about 2‘, which might be OK, but always go deeper if you can. Freezing temps aren’t necessarily a problem.

Two feet is deep enough. We get bitterly cold winters here in Chicago and I've seen many many ponds that are only 24 inches deep and both koi and goldfish thrive in them. BUT it's never a bad idea to make a pond deeper. You can increase your water volume without increasing the footprint.

So here are some pics of the prep work conducted so far. You can see there's a ledge on the left where an old water feature has been kept. But I'm keen to create a waterfall into the pond.
Pond measurements are 2 ft deep, 6.5 ft long, 2.8ft wide
I have used some loft insulation material to protect against sharp concrete edges.
There is a sand base applied also.
