Hi William, Welcome to the forum. Probably one of the first things you will need to decide is if you prefer to build a watergarden with a lot of plants and fish, or if you prefer a more traditional koi pond. If you want to keep koi then you should plan on building a pond larger than 1000 gallons and it will be harder to keep plants in it because koi will eat them.
