Hello all!
This is my first post but, have learned so much from all of you!
I have a 1500 gallon pond and am into my second year since it was created. It has a lot of algae buildup this year (based on my opinion, but no string algae as of yet) and water is becoming murky. I understand that it is a common issue until the plants start growing and has significant water coverage. I have 6 gold fish in it as of now.

I am looking for advise on the setup of an external filter system in addition to my existing aquasurge 3000 system. A bog is not an option but, I found an old system that I believe I can use to supplement a solution (pictures attached). I am just not sure how to go about setting it up.

My thought: Setup a pump to canister and let it flow back into the pond using the existing mesh of charcoal pellets & mesh of bio-balls as filters?

What would the grey connector be used for? Is it just a relief valve?

Would this help or is there a better non-chemiccal option?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome. The aquasurge 3000 appears to be just the pump, what other filters do you have connected to it? Is the pump part of one of their pond kits? Do you know which one, what size? The green container looks like a pressure filter, maybe the gray outlet at the bottom is waste or back flush. Looks like some damage to the housing.
if you can’t do a bog there are still a lot of people that use UV filters and that is only going to help with green water.

Thank you! The balloon was a nice touch!

I had purchased the aquascape 53033 pond kit which included skimmer and BioFalls® filter. I have not added any other components, just plants like lilies, irises, creeping jenny, and a hand full of hyacinths and a couple of corkscrew rush. I am totally new to this hobby and learning through the wisdom & knowledge provided by this forum.
Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated! I do plan on running the water fall all year round through this upcoming winter.
I did not consider adding a UV filter as I wanted to go as natural as possible and I am running out of outlets with pump, dosing system & lights.

It makes sense that the unit I have is a pressure filter being it has a pressure guage attaches. Would this be useful and worth setting up? I haven't been able to find any information on how to set it up or the effective use of it.

I don’t have any experience with pressure filters; poorly designed ones are nothing but a hassle and even well designed ones require regular maintenance and cleaning. Adding lots of plants will help the most with the algae, marginals are especially efficient.
Post some pictures of the pond. Glad to hear you want to keep it natural and chemical free.
