Predaceous Diving Beetle

Was able to identify this large water bug ive noticed in my pond. Does anyone know anything about these guys? Good? Bad? So so? Thanks!

Well, since you haven’t posted a picture, it will be kinda hard for anyone to answer your question. But, if you were able to identify it....why didn’t you continue your research?

The name of the beetle is the title of the thread....the predacious diving beetle. I wanted to get information from personal experience involving garden ponds. The only info I got online was mostly scientific and it’s mostly about its life cycle in lakes, swamps etc.

A bug of this size is kind of eye popping when my pond is only 12x15 feet or so...maybe 2000 gallons.

I got a bunch of them. They sometimes play dead like a Possum, when you pick them up.
