I'm looking to have a pond installed this summer and am looking for recommendations for a company to do it. Would have to be a landscaping company, as I need a general backyard overhaul rather than simply putting in a pond. I've got a few companies in mind from my searches, but if you have one could recommend in the NE Ohio area, would appreciate it. Pardon if this isn't the place to ask this type of question.

You can certainly ask here, but I think you'd do better to contact a couple of the companies you're considering and ask them for local references. Go SEE the work and TALK to the homeowners.

ALSO - do NOT choose a landscaper to build your pond. DO NOT. Instead, choose a POND EXPERT to build your pond landscape your yard. Almost EVERY landscaper out there will nod "yes" if you ask if they know how to build a pond - incredibly doubtful that it's true. If you are a pondbuilder, you will advertise yourself as such. But EVERY SINGLE pondbuilder will also know how to landscape an entire yard, no problem. If you can build a beautiful pond, you can landscape.

If you need help finding qualified pond builders, hop on Aquascape's website and search for CACs in your area. They are the cream of the crop.

One last word to the wise - be prepared to be stunned at what this will cost you. For reference, take a look at some of Greg Wittstock's YouTube videos. Some of the more recent ones he has started putting a price tag on what the builds cost. It ain't cheap.

I volunteer @GBBUDD for you to hire, just check out his pond, it won awards and they even gave him real money...................he will do an excellent job, just not sure he will like that I gave him the job

The number one regret we see here when hiring someone, is hiring a landscape company to build a pond. THESE ARE NOT THE SAME MIND SETS. Though i'm sure some landscapers can more than pull it off and very successfully.
But for my money i would find a professional pond company and then hire the professional landscaper to work around the pond.
After all would you consider a landscaper to build a gunnite pool?

Thank @j.w wish i was 30 again. i'd be knee deep in ponds, if only i had acted on it back then. my first time working with epdm roofing back in the 80's i had the idea of building a pond but like I said , I never had the time money or space to do it.

The two that come to mind in that area are aquascapes and tulsey landscaping. aquascapes has a list of contractors who have passed there requirements to build ponds. They can point you to some pros that they work with

Thanks for responses guys! I agree that a landscaper might not be the ideal person to build the pond.

How large of a pond do you want? Depending on the size maybe we can help you step by step to do it yourself or w/a little help from your friends and family.

A medium sized pond/waterfall probably, maybe like 10-12 foot diameter footprint. I'd like a waterfall with a couple levels and does some interesting things with the water as it goes over the rocks. The top and middle parts would be for birds. For the pond itself, I envision something kidney shaped with the left section being a little deeper (maybe 3 1/2 foot) with steps gradually going up. And then the right section would be shallower, the "boggy area" with some interesting water plants to serve as an area for frogs/newts/turtles maybe. So this would be a wildlife pond (no fish).
I don't see doing this myself though, I'd prefer a professional to put it in.

I wonder how far it would be for you to do a trip to the Aquascape headquarters in St. Charles, Illinois? It was a very fun place to visit (although more fun at a warmer time of year!) They have many sample ponds with pricing and lots of very nice people working there!
