You will hear different advice about salt. Some people feel low levels will help reduce disease, but I think it is more beneficial to use as a salt bath when treating a sick fish and not to be added to the whole pond. Most freshwater plants do not like salt and it will either stop them from growing or kill them entirely.

I always put a little solar salt in my pond to help slime coat .I mix it in a bucket of pond water and slowly add it in

I use salt in my old bio filter. It has five one hundred gallon tanks. If somebody looks sick I put him in the first tank and watch him. Then I bring up the other tanks if I have to medicate. Don't put plants in there.
