We built this dock in 1998, I wanted a cute dock over the deep end
of the pond. The head groundskeeper gave it some thought and concluded
that it would be a great place to house a skimmer. He made a DIY skimmer
from our old swimming pool.

We have a DIY gravity fed bottom drain system that works very well, however, in
early spring the tannins drop off the trees into the water ...so in early spring
the skimmer is not essential, but helpfull.

The rest of the season we don't need a skimmer
and soly rely on the Bottom drain to remove all waste. The rest of the season
any leaves that drop into the pond and float... we remove with a net.

Our filter system is located behind the large waterfall. I thought I'd show you guys
some pic's of the dock, as not only is it a good place to hide a skimmer, but a good
place to hide a filter system as well.
You can build a dock over the pond as big as you need it to cover the filter or skimmer.

Thanks for the tip Joann and I was wondering how you get access to it and then you posted the picture w/ the flip up lid. Very cool and easy as pie! Love your pond and beautiful fish and oh yes your handsome son and cute little grandson!

My honey wanted a dock, but with our slope it just did not work out.
