I noticed yesterday whilst prepping the pond for winter that my second in line filter had all these baby snails happily living in it.
However I'm at a loss as to where they have come from not feeding our koi anything live from aquatic outlets, nor do we have any aquatic plants in the the pond as we like a formal pond .
I suppose it could have been airborne on some bird or other but thats our only guess here.
Anyone got any ideas where they may have come from ?
They look like rams horn snails , I suppose as they get older it'll mean free food for the koi.

I found tadpoles in my filter this morning good gosh when do those frogs stop laying eggs .Lots of the lizards around the pond eating bugs this morning .Love to watch how they seem to watch what I am doing .Snails all over the waterfall rocks eating away too .I saw a lizard that looked like he was eating some of the teeny ones .LKots of baby lizards also .More than I have ever seen before too and wonder if it was because of the wet summer .Filled the bird bath and bird feeders and water troughs for the deer .Watched a squirrel steal an apple that had fallen from my apple tree and he acted like he had a piece of gold . :cheerful: Rabbits out also ,you gotta love wildlife in the morning .

What you said about koi eating snails is true .I bought the trap door snails and caught my biggest koi just as she spit the shell of one out and then found the rest of the snail shells after they emptied them .What a waste of money ,those snails are not cheap .

They also eat fresh water mussles I foundthat to my cost many years ago, plus I stopped buying snails as I found they eat them to at 25p a snail it got rather expensive.
I found they sucked them up then spat out the shell
