I had left my hyacinths in the pond all winter. It is probably not the best thing to do but the fish liked hiding under them. The plants in the larger pond all died and eventually I removed them but the plants in the small pond survived. Since the winter was SO mild and the small pond is pretty much in sun all day, the center of the plants stayed green. Yesterday, my husband and I removed most of the roots and dead part of the plants. There were new roots already growing in the center. We put the plants in floating baskets to keep the fish from eating them and give the plants time to grow. The next 10 days are going to be in the upper 70's maybe 80.

Kind of nice not having to buy plants this year.

I lucked out with South Carolina having one of it famous very mild winters and the small pond is in full sun all day. The year before my pond had ice except where the fountain was. Ice here could last a day or a couple weeks before it warms enough to melt it again. Last week our morning temps were at freezing for a couple days and may plants in the garden got burned but the hyacinth did fine.
