this is the third summer I will have the same tropical in my pond. I bring it in and stick it upstairs in the window in our study in the winter in a big spackle tub filled with water. It has large arrow shaped leaves on long stems -- I really am not sure exactly what it is. Anyhow, this spring it actually bloomed. I was told it didn't have a flower, but it bloomed twice before I put it outside this spring, and once again in the pond. The bloom is around 8" in diameter on a 3 foot stem. Anyone know what it is?

never mind.. can't figure out how to post a picture of it.

Joanie, I did not know how to post a picture either, but at the bottom right before you submit the reply, there is a other reply option, choose that and you should have no problem. Also you can edit the page for a short time and do it that way too. :) :) :)
Good luck! Let me know how it goes!

Joanie at the bottom of this page is a button that says "More Reply Options", click on that, and then on the bottom of the reply box it will say Attach Files, click on the button that says "Choose Files." This will bring up a pop up window of the files on your computer, just navigate to the pictures you want to post, click on it and then click the "Save" button. You will see it uploading the file, and when it is done, just click on the green letters that say add to post. Hope this helps!

Yep- It's a tropical calla lily. Bought one last year and forgot to bring it in. It bloomed last week!! It was in the corner of the bog so it was sheltered. Have a canna and 2 tomatillo plants coming up in my burn pile! Hubbly dumped my old plant pots.
Also have 2 lotus plants that I haven't fertilized yet that are not in the ponds. One has 4 buds!

Could possibly be a Peace Lilly, but to be sure I need to see the leaf better. Does look much like the Calla but the leaf on the Calla is arrow shaped and the Peace Lilly is pointed, with no arrows on the bottom. Flower does look like a Calla to me, check the leaf to be sure.

This is a Calla Lilly from my pond, notice the flower has a yellow "spadixes" in the center of the flower.
The yellow "spadixes" shrinks as the flower ages.

well it doesn't look like the peace lily, the leaf is nearly identical to the calla lily pictures, but the lily itsel foverlaps on one side, doesn't open up.. but maybe its just a different cultivar because otherwise it looks just the same. Is the calla lily about 3 to 4 feet tall, and the lily bloom between 6 and 8" in diameter? I think that's what it is.

Joanie, my big white ones have never bloomed but my other varieties do faithfully each summer. I'm going to try coffee grounds in the soil like someone in the Dave's garden link posted and heres a bit of info on them from the net:

Description

Inflorescence and spathe
It is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plant, evergreen where rainfall and temperatures are adequate, deciduous where there is a dry season. Its preferred habitat is in streams and ponds or on the banks. It grows to 0.6–1 m (2–3 ft) tall, with large clumps of broad, arrow shaped dark green leaves up to 45 cm (18 in) long. The Inflorescences are large, produced in spring, summer and autumn, with a pure white spathe up to 25 cm (10 in) and a yellow spadix up to 90 mm (3½ in) long.[sup][2][/sup]
Zantedeschia contains calcium oxalate, and ingestion of the raw plant may cause a severe burning sensation and swelling of lips, tongue, and throat; stomach pain and diarrhea may occur.[sup][3][/sup][sup][4][/sup]

JW, how did you get that peace Lily to grow so nice, if I remember correct, I somehow killed mine years ago! :) (-:

Colleen I gave mine lots of water and when I watered from Spring to Fall I put Miracle grow kind of liquid fertilizer in the water. I kept it in light that came from a South window but it sat way back away from the window against a wall so it wouldn't get burnt but still got the light. It grew so big that it took up so much room that I gave it away to a lady who lost all her plants traveling across country in a hot moving van. Gave away a bunch of house plants to her as had way too many! She was so happy and I was glad they got a good home :)

My adopted mom used to say to me "I sure wish I could be more like you, you don't worry about anything"! Well I didn't have a chance to worry about anything.................she worried so much about everything for both me and my dad! My motto in life is the old song from awhile back:
