For those of you who grow swamp milkweed, is it OK ( or necessary ) to prune or cut it back? And if so, what is the best time to do this? What is the plant supposed to look like?

I have several plants that I mail-ordered this spring. I have them planted in a bog-setting, and they are growing quite well. I don't know a lot about their "habit," so have no idea what to expect and how to care for them. The plants are about 3' tall, and grew up about 2 1/2' with a straight stalk before they divided into multiple off-shoots. Waiting for blooms, but from past experience with other plants, am not necessarily expecting blooms the first season ( these arrived as bare-root plants, and had been cut back to about 6" - 8" ).
