Black water

Hello, I moved into a new house which has a pond in Manchester, just before the bad weather started at Christmas. I've not had a pond before! I've cleared out out the leaves which smelled so badly and the water looks black. I keep finding dead frogs, which is so upsetting. They obsiously want to use the pond. But I just don't know what to do. Do I drain it and re-fill it, buy plants.... please help...

Drain it out and start over you will be way ahead

See if you can find a filter and make sure it is clean. When you drain, clean any junk off the bottom also.
Make sure you let the water sit before you put the fish back in.

Does it have a filter and pump?

You might want to clean everything with bleach while you are at it.
