Probably - I'm assuming you have filter mats and/or bioballs or some other filtering media? They could get clogged over time, depending on your pond set up. Some people have a prefilter on their pump which would eliminate some of the debris that might otherwise clog the filters and allow you to run your filter longer between clean outs. How old is the pond?

Now if by "bio filter" you mean a planted wetland filter, that's a whole other story!

Because we have to completely dismantle our pond for winter, the filter gets dismantled and cleaned as well. Our pond has been around for ages but does get a break over winter. Thanks for your information.
