Couple of questions...

Hi I have a couple of questions about our pond. I'm in the United Kingdom and temperatures are quite high here at the moment (hottest day of year today). We had real bad blanket weed earlier on in the year which I think was due to a family member bringing a bunch up and into our pond. It got soo bad we emptied the pond and cleaned it all away, and we've had algae since but only a bit around the side of the pond. Recently it's got real bad again, the pond doesen't look healthly at all, there is green algae/blanket weed all over the pond. The water is clear it's just the horrible green stuff. Whats the best way of controlling this stuff? Is there a fish which is great to get which will eat a bunch of this stuff?

Also, when doing water changes, do you empty the pond and refill it or empty and refill at the same time?

This person says barley straw works, i have never had blanket weed, but you might need to try an algecide.

you do a 20% water change weekly .. its a bit drastic to keep emptying the pond

I have used hydrogen peroxide to control string algae, it works great, 1 liter per 1000 gallons.
