It just swirled the water around in the bottom and some of the dirt just kept going back in the pond because the swirl does not work right on a square or oval tank .At least it didn't work good for me

hi all, ponddigger here from ireland.just want to know does a diy skippy filter work. ponddigger

Dear friend from Ireland

First of all happy new year 2013

I am building now a koi pond about 9 meter x 7 meter x 1.5 meter deep OR if you prefer 27 feet x 21 feet x 5 feet deep ttl about 68000 liter or 15000 gallons

I want your valuable advise concerning DIY filter

The one you have attached it will do for my pond ???? (if yes please provide some technical details)

I prefer a multi-chambered filter ( if you know any plan please advice technical details)

Tell me also if the correct pipe plan is as below:

1) drain at the bottom connected to a pump (same level as koi pond surface)
2) after pump is connected to filter and finally
3) Filter send the water back to koi pond via waterfall

At last how many drains do i need for my pond ???

Thank you

Theo

Going to post a pic of one of our filters that hubby built for inside with scraps... it is butt ugly, but is working very well so far (it has only been running for two and a half months) but the water tests say all is good. Pond is 600 gallons, with 53 highly over fed baby fish ranging 3 - 6" (most are about 5") and some plants... Pump is 1000 gph, BUT, it has a T directing some of the water to a heater, so estimate the pump is only sending 600-700 gph to the filter.

right now it looks like you have it in what looks like stream and guessing just to start the cleaning of the pond and then you will move it and hide it .i did not want a barrel as they are just so hard to hide and if they leak or overflow you have to be worried about emptying the pond before you catch it .My filters have liner all around them that would flow the water back into the pond .It scares me with them like that .I am a chicken .

hi sissy, this diy skippy is for a friends pond and stream.it is very easy to hide the barell just behind the waterfall, with soil.they should be no leaks, every thing well seeled  ponddigger  ps here are a few photos of a dry stone workshop we did in november.we built a bee hive hut ,like the ones the monks lived in 1000years ago,

how neat is that how big was it and would be great place to throw clay for a pot .I love the shape is that something normal for there .I know I have never seen anything like it .My neighbor has a filter like that and it overflowed from the top and then happened to be in a pool store picking up stuff for a friends pool and saw a pool low water alarm for 25 dollars and bought it and we put it in the tank and ran the wire true a piece of old hose she had so we could put the alarm in the house and so far has worked for her 2 times so far .I was waiting for the guy to get my neighbors order and was just looking around with a ponders eye and found several neat things/who would have thought  .The pool alarm just happened to be end of season sale .
