The pond is about 100 feet long by about 50 feet wide,
Humm in that case how about planting a few lilies they will naturalize. I thought it was your backyard smaller pond! Spread them around you could start with some small tubers. I would take the tuber, attach a rock to it, toss in, it will root. They will grow fine off the nutrients in the pond. It will take years to overwhelm a pond that size, if ever.

Do you have any pictures?

Oh! I do actually have several ( maybe 20? ) lilies growing in the muck/moss/floating hearts around the perimeter of the pond but they haven't really spread as much as I'd expected. So, now that I hear your comments I think I will transfer more from pots because the fertilizing is so hard and I'm now 65 years old....those pots get heavier every year! I'm including three photos. One shows the view of the pond that we get from our back yard. Another shows the pond from the end that I enter to do the work. Finally, I've included a photo with an arrow to show the location of our house. As you can see, I do have quite a bit of empty water so I could certainly put lilies there. The floating hearts are a constant chore---trying to keep them in check.

My poor lilies have been looking pretty sad after the hail storm last month. But they are still blooming. :D
