I travel to Asia once or twice a year and this summer my appreciation of ponds is different as I built my first pond recently. Figured I'd share pond designs and concepts I've observed during my visits

The first is a display at a restaurant which grows their own vegetables inside a mall and here is hydro system they have to demonstrate the nitrogen cycle

here are some pictures from the east garden from the Tokyo imperial palace. Not a big pond but really learn to enjoy it when you realize they manage to design the pond to look so different when viewed in various perspectives. Interesting to see green water in the land where koi were first bred.

Did you mean the imperial palace in Japan or the fish in the mall restaurant serving the hydro plants?

I did not see a filtration system though the imperial garden had manmade waterfall, but didn't see a bog.

fish not for sale, they looked healthy and happy though even being stuck in a mall...

I went there last October but in the Nijubashi bridge side. I haven't seen any fish since the pond is mostly covered in leaves.

I was there also but not sure if there are koi in the moats. Did you get a ticket to go into the palace? They only allow 400 visitors per day. I had tickets but my kids didn't want to wait around since it was a close to 100F on that day.
