Hey everyone,

We (The family) noticed a koi with a gowth (looks like a shrimp) on the side of it's head. I have contacted the local fish dealer in town and they're gone till mid-week. From the pictures below, what might we be looking at here? The fish has been isolated, and we haven't seen any others with a similar growth.

Have you tried contacting any Vets in your area or see if there is a Koi Club in your area. It appears to be some type of tumor. You did good by isolating it. In some locations if there is a university there they will exam and try to identify. This is something a very experienced Koi keeper of Vetanarian with diagnoses and a microscope are going to need to evaluate to assist you if you plan on helping it, which I hope you plan to do. Could get a little pricey if you have to use a vet though. They aren't easy to find. Here we are lucky as there is a vet school at the LSU campus.

Yeah it looks like a tumor. And it does not look like it is in a real good spot. here is a link to one of my comets that has a tumor like that one.
