Drained my pond completely yesterday and pulled all of the fish out. What a muddy and long job that became. Goal was to get rid of all the goldfish and I hope I got them all. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures. I have 4 of the 6 koi I had put in this spring. They started as 3" to 4" and now are around 9" and man were they strong, surprised me a lot. Had 8 of the15 feeder gold fish I had put in this spring. They started at 1" and are now around 6". Then I got about 200 baby goldfish from the spawning this year. Of the 200 about 70 had color. All the colored goldfish got moved to a friend’s pond and the koi went back into my pond. From now on it is only koi and hope to get this type of spawning with them next year. No more goldfish for me.

Bravo. I have the same dilemma. I still have a handful of comets in my upper and lower ponds that I need to rehome. I just want koi in my lower pond and sarassas and watonai in my upper pond.

I think my new pond will have a combo of both---but no comets! Nothing against them, of course. LOL!

After seeing how successful my spawn was with the goldfish and with no real care from me It's peaked my interest on doing this with the koi. Next spring and after I'm complete with major pond work I'm going to purchase some Doitsu Lemon Hairiwakes which are my top favorite to see what I can produce with them. This darn hobby is starting to grow and I may soon need an intervention. I've also been thinking about two more ponds.

Unfortunately, we're going to be no help in stopping you--as we're all deeply hooked as well! If you're looking for a 12-step Koi Anonymous program, we're the wrong place! We're just going to keep fanning those flames!

HA HA HA! LOL! Are you now convinced it was him inside the plastic bag along with that camera, too? I've been wondering how he managed to get such a clear image through a ziploc!
