I love gardening and have just begun to add water to my yard. Although I dream of the Waterfall, stream, and large pond, I wanted to start small with just a container pond/goldfish on my deck first. I hope to learn from the knowledge all of you have to guide me.

hello and welcome and best way is to start small to see if you can do it .There is also pondless if pond idea is to much .They can be just as nice to hear and see ..Birds love to frolic in the pondless part

Welcome! If you are starting out with goldfish just add one or two right off the bat until your pond acclimates (cycles) so the waste is processed by good bacteria that builds up. It takes time for that to happen.
