j.w. I used to have a setup like yours, but the nutrient load from turtles is too much and algae grows so fast in my pond that it jams the pump. Hate getting all gooey cleaning it, so decided the pump needs serious filtration before water enters it. Only came up with this setup last fall (have had turtles in a pond for many years now), after many iterations/variations of the filtration set up. I'm not young, and work around assorted injuries. My pond is not ideal, and those injuries keep me from changing things to what they really should be (or my idea of what they should be). Fortunately, I can haul that box out of the water with the rope set up. I have a big bog, but it is not tied into the pond (I was changing it around when serious injuries happened and I have yet to tie the two back together. Hopefully, this spring will see the bog tied to the pond, and the plants will deal with the nutrient load. Meanwhile, the Pump in the Box is keeping the pump from jamming.

Yes I agree turtles need a lot more tending to the filters than fish do. My set up works well w/the fish. If I had turtles in there it would be a constant mess for me to clean. A bog would hopefully help you much more and I wish I had made one. Glad you can now not have a jammed up pump. Sorry for your injuries and hope you heal up well.
