In ground firepit near my Pond

It's been Colder than usual some nights in Chicago so I got the idea last night to build a small in ground fire pit near my pond, very happy with how it turned out.

I have a much larger one in the middle of my yard further away from the pond.

I remember seeing this pond in a thread last year. How did it do over the winter? Fish good? Freezing over issues?
