We are having trouble keeping the inlet pipe from leaking. It’s a small leak, but we’re wondering what type of sealer we should use. Thank you

You leak is easy to fix you need what is referred to as a bulked fitting look for one that is made to go with a plastic barrel the collar and gaskets will be for a rounded wall

The bulkhead fitting it the right way to do it, or you can do it like I would, get some pl roofing goop or marine goop. Clean the surface well scratch it up a bit, and apply either . Let it dry.

Bulkhead is the "right" way, but like @addy1 I sometimes make up my own way! If I were going to use the PL Goop, I'd cut a small piece of liner so I could slip it on over the pipe, apply the goop to the tub and then press the liner to the goop, if that makes sense. Kind of make a goop sandwich with liner on one side and tub on the other.

I do the same with the pl and at times have just put it on. The marine goop just smear it on, I do a thick layer. Let it dry well.

In the trades we call that putty and paint make it what it ain't. The bulked is readily available even if prices have sky rocketed due to this covid Bull its still the best fix . Now depending on the degree of bow to your tub a bead of pl can help insure longterm trouble free seal.
If you do opt to just smear around the fitting Lisa had a good point make a hole in a piece rubber about a half inch smaller then the diameter of the pipe . Slip the pipe through the rubber it should be very snug. Apply a bead around the seal for extra measure. Resecue the pipe and glue tge rubber to the bin. Do this to both sides. There's little to no pressure inside the bin /bog

I put a hole through my 1000 gallon stock tank when moving it with my tractor, about 1/2 the way down. I used the pl stuff a good layer on the inside of the tank , squished a piece of liner in the goop, more goop and another piece of liner. Holding 6-7 years later.

Recently had a fussy additional 1 inch pvc pipe for drainage we put in the 300 gallon stock tank. No room for a bulkhead, ribs, pl failed me for the first time. So I cleaned it, dried it, a bit of sand paper work, and used the marine goop. Leak fixed. Only put the goop on the inside of the tank. No piece of liner

Our friend who did all of our remodeling on our house has used that phrase many, many times! And it's true - he will say "don't worry - the painter is coming!" Too funny!

I have fired a few individuals who had that reply when I wouldnt except there craftsmanship. But that was high-end construction Museums, high end residential, college, hospitals etc. I will admitt I have used the putty and paint in a few cases. But for the post here and the ease of a bulked I would lean toward getting a bulked. In an emergency hell yeah putty and paint baby.

Yep, had guys I worked with years ago that used that line or some form of it all the time. Like you being in the construction business for a long time, you learn how to hide things that are cosmetic. But yeah I don’t tolerate shoddy work from my guys, we do a lot of high end work, so our guys need to be particular not only being structurally sound, but looking aesthetically pleasing is just as important and the little things make a big difference to that end. It is what can set you apart from other contractors.
