I will tell you what I want to do and if everyone would please tell me if it is feasible and how I could pull it off.

W have 10 acres with a shallow pond, about 1 acre, cattails and open water in the middle. Except this time of year the weeds are throughout and the water is low. Periodically and most often in the spring it overflows and we have a small creek, part of which I lined with landscape fabric and field rocks.

We are building a house with a ground source, open loop, geothermal heating and cooling system. So whenever we are heating or cooling our house we will be dumping well water into the pond, which will overflow. The well water is hard, but little iron.

I want to build the kids a shallow swimming hole that slowly tappers from a sand beach to 18" deep, interrupting the creek, so the water from the big pond flows into and out of the lined swimming hole. When the boys are older I would like to dig it deeper and have Koi.

I would line the area you are making into a swimming pool for the kids. To keep it less slippery you might want to look at the ppl liner from bend tarp and liner, it does not get slippery.

Have your flow go into the swimming hole on one side flow through and out the other side to promote cleaning, have a slope to the out flow side of your swimming hole.

Post a picture of the area, that helps a lot with thinking out how to do things like this.

I am planning on lining it and a sand bottom. But how about algae, clarity and other water quality issues? Attached should be a picture of the overall situation. I have a pile of black dirt fro spreading, but the pond would be to the left of it. I have a skid-steer so I can do it whenever.

cute kids in your av! You could set up one of the diy filters, use a pump to circulate the water. How big would depend on the size of your swimming hole.
