I built a simple squirrel feeder this last fall for my wife and the raccoons have pulled the plexiglass out to get to the food anyway I am digressing. Since they have done this she just puts out some food for them each day on the same feeder and likes to watch them, they are like baby sitters for my dog as all she does all day is run from one window to the next watching them. At times we have up to 4 or 5 squirrels around the feeder and under the bird feeder feasting. One of the adults has had babies so they now come up as well and have been fun to watch as they aren't quite as good climbers as the adults. Often when they finish feasting themselves they will go to the pond and grab a drink before they head home. A few days ago we got another visitor a grey squirrel which has never been around before. Yesterday he got caught in a heavy rainstorm and took shelfter inside the feeder. Here are some pics.

Love the pics. Are the first pics of Fox squirrels? I miss Fox squirrels, they are my favorite. All we have are grey squirrels but none are in my yard. I raised some squirrels when I was in college after the mother never returned to the nest. They were grey squirrels but 3 of the four were the black phase.

Very cool pics, Love the Fox/red squirrel! All we have are grey/cat squirrels here too. I have a feeder for them but only one really visits regularly. I need to try and get a pic of it feeding but I have a hard time getting a pic through the sliding glass door and as soon as it opens off it goes into the mulberry tree.

I have so many pics of them, they are fun to watch. The first pic is them eating out of the feeder I made before the raccoons destroyed the plexglass front. It was a simple feeder, and took them a few days to figure out how to get the food out, all they had to do was use their head to open the lid and it would close when they pulled their head out. The second pic is of one of the babies (not really small anymore). The othrs are how they used to eat out of my feeder before I moved it further away from the pole so they wouldn't eat it all and not leave any for the birds. Take a look at the fourth pic he is only hanging on by his back legs, their strength is amazing like ants! The last one shows off his junk rather well, hopefully it does not affend anyone...:yikesu:

Squirrels are so much fun. I wish we had some regulars that would come here. We live in a spot where the houses and trees have only been here for about 10 yrs so trees are just now starting to become squirrel friendly. I have seen one come around now and then but not very often. Love your pix :nananananana:

They love to climb our bird feeding pole, around 15 feet high (it had to be that high to see from the house) Really enjoy watching them eat the bird food! I kept a little house full of feed on the deck until some huge racoons started raiding it.

Great pictures taherrmann

Well it seems we have a new group of young squirrels coming around. They have been coming the last week with one of the parents at least that is what it looks like. They hang around for several hours, eating, drinking, playing and then sleeping.

Loved the pics, Todd. And, isn't that the same arbor that raccoons raided later when the grapes ripened? I remembered that thread. Guess they took the limelight from the squirrels for a while.
Addy, looks like you have a pulley system for your feeders, which is really neat! And, no such thing as a squirrel proof pole, your pics are proof. :)
