Hi everyone,
new to this forum, so a BIG hello from north wales uk 🇬🇧
Need Help… I have cleared a large area of land for this new project. I have built natural fish ponds before but a no fish swimming pond is a new and scary venture.
Does anyone know of off the shelf plans for such a build? I’m planning on a 8 X 5 meter swimming area with a depth of 1.5 meters (ish)
We are quite handy on the digger, block work and concret. But I’m scratching my head over the best way to filter, UV filter and pipeworks, etc. I intend to use a gravel bed fully planted up all around the swimming area as additional filtration.
Also.
1 I’m i better installing a bottom drain ? Even with no fish in the pond? I have read that you can over filter these kind of ponds and the plants need some nutrients in the water.
2. Is EPDM rubber easy to solvent weld/bond? I I would like a smooth finish to the bo and sides.

thanks for any advic.

@MrKeith
There have been a few people on here that have built swim ponds. Maybe do a search above to find them all. Sounds like fun and keep us updated w/photo's etc. on how you start and finish it all!

Hi,

I'm afraid I haven't build one yet either, but so far my research has taken me via aquablox and Ozponds - which has pdf instructions for DIY. I also found ponds by Michael Wheat helpful to see how their alternative construction works, to gauge what would work best in your space / budget. Do post your progress on here as those of us in the UK will be interested to see how you get on. A great asset that you know your way around a digger and concrete! Good luck and best wishes for your project.

they do say that but i don't buy it now that i have a pond and i would plan on some grass carp that are sterilized as they we eat algae and let them have that alone.

30 % of the surface area is the minimum needed for your bog area. if this is for swimming exclusively i would do at least double the bog to swim area. if some plants cant survive because you have taken too much nutrients out of the water"
{i don't believe this is possible.}" if you get the pond to where no algae grows i doubt you'd be upset. far better too have too much than not enough
